Includes a Bureau of Engraving and Printing 7 x 10 inch intaglio engraved portrait of Theodore Roosevelt printed on thin card on off white toned paper, The highlight of this lot is a partially engraved portait autographed by Smillie in pencil and in his hand written "1st Stage - 9 July 1908. The card back bares the BEP blue control number "298284", printed in black on india on large thin card, Amazing signed partial early stage portrait of this famous image. Unique and historic to say the least. BEP. G.F.C. Smillie, was the premiere engraver for the Bureau of Engraving & Printing at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. He also produced security engraving work for the American Bank Note Company, the National Bank Note Company, and the Homer Lee Bank Note Company. His father was the famous engraver James Smillie.
