Auction Details

We are offering over 1400 lots of U.S. and Worldwide Scripophily, Banknotes, Autographs, Security Printing Ephemera and Historic artifacts and Documents over a two day period. We are privileged to be the auctioneer for the Third Annual Wall Street Coin, Currency and Collectibles Show being held at the Museum of American Finance located at 48 Wall Street in New York City.
The sale begins with The First Hour which includes historic documents & objects including an Edison Stock Ticker; a piece of the original cable from the Brooklyn Bridge as well as artwork and interesting objects including generous donations from Tiffany, Baccarat and Pelikan.
We are featuring The Copps Collection of historic Colonial Fiscal Paper, Documents and Stock & Bond Certificates put together over 30 years ago and highlighted by a spectacular 1792 dated U.S. Federal Bond issued to and signed by George Washington while President of the United States. This is the first time an instrument of this sort has been offered publically at auction. We think there will be serious interest in this amazing piece of U.S. Financial and Presidential history.
The first auction session being held at the Museum of American Finance in New York City, scheduled for Saturday, October 19th includes the First Hour, the Copps Collection, Scripophily and Autographs. There are over 50 lots of historic autographs including 3 different Standard Oil Company Stock certificates signed by John D. Rockefeller; 3 different Thomas Edison signed certificates; a historic “Short Snorter” signed by Harry Truman as well as many other WW II military notables; aviation autographs including 3 different Charles Lindbergh as well as Amelia Earhart’s autographs; Buffalo Bill Cody’s autograph and many other well known signatures. The Scripophily section consists of over 500 different stock and bond certificates highlighted by a Wells Fargo Mining Stock Certificate with a racing stagecoach vignette; One of the earliest Alaska stock certificates known, dated from the late 1870’s; Liberty Loan Bonds; Railroad stocks and bonds and hundreds of other interesting U.S. & Worldwide Bonds & Shares.
The second session scheduled for Tuesday, October 22nd at our offices in Fort Lee, New Jersey includes U.S. & Worldwide banknotes; Security Printing Ephemera; Confederate Banknotes & Bonds; Historic ephemera including a fresh estate “Wells Fargo” collection put together over a century ago with many rare Wells Fargo documents, Broadsides, Exchanges and Fiscal paper that have never been offered at auction. The Worldwide Banknote section is highlighted by a U.A.E. Specimen set of 5 notes; a China, Hupeh Government Cash Bank, 1904 rarity; Mexico is represented by a significant selection of rarities seldom seen at auction including high denomination proofs from the Banco period as well as an interesting selection of Bono De Caja Specimens with a discovery note that is unlisted. The U.S. section offers Colonial banknotes; Obsolete banknotes; Fractional Currency; Large & Small Type including an 1896 Educational banknote set of $1, $2 and $5 in high grade and dozens of other desirable notes. The sale is rounded out with an offering of Penn Central stock certificates that had been selected for a reference collection as well as Security Printing Ephemera and stocks and bonds.
