Baranoff Island, Alaska Territory. May 29, 1878, 500 Shares. Certificate #183. Issued and uncancelled stock certificate (there are 2 holes in the right hand margin from storage in a file, not cancellation punches). Amazing vignette of Alaska coastline with boat offshore, seals on beach with mountains in background. Title is vertical on left side. Issued in Portland, Oregon. One of the most spectacular mining stocks to come onto the market in years as well as being one of the earliest issued Alaska Mining or any kind of early Alaska stock certificate. A.L.Stinson, Printer, Salem, Oregon. The Alaska Purchase (otherwise known as Seward's Folly or Seward's Icebox) by the U.S. from the Russian Empire occurred in 1867, only 11 years earlier) at the behest of Secretary of State William Seward. Rare to say the least. Green Cycloid circular design on back. One of only 3 found and this is the last one available.
