New York, September 2, 1816. Document which states the appointment of a member of the 20th Regiment of Militia in the State of New York to the post of Orderly First Sergeant, due to his demonstrated "Patriotism, Courage, and good Conduct." Black text and handwriting. Issued and signed by David Curtis, Lieutenant Colonel of the same regiment. The name of the appointed militia member, as well as the Captain of the Company, is obscured. Information on New York's 20th Regiment of Militia in 1816 is extremely scarce. Fine condition with some staining and fragile fold lines. Rare and possibly unique military document relating top the War of 1812.
