United States Defense Savings Bond, Series E, 1942 $25.00 Issued through the Riggs National Bank in Washington, D.C. Black text with black border, George Washington at top left. Red serial number, also red bank stamp at bottom left. VF condition, Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Series E savings bonds were sold by the American government to support U.S. Armed Forces in World War II. Issued shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The physical size of the bond was reduced in 1944 to save paper and money. Towards the end of the war, the bonds were renamed Victory Bonds.
