The Cuba Railroad Company, established in 1902 with American investment, played a crucial role in Cuba's transportation and sugar economy by connecting key regions of the island through a comprehensive railway network. It enabled efficient transport of sugar, goods, and passengers, supporting the growth of Cuba's sugar industry and solidifying its status as a major exporter. With its central line from Havana to Santiago and branches serving plantations and mills, the railroad became integral to rural development. Symbolizing U.S. economic dominance in Cuba, it attracted significant investment but faced challenges during the Great Depression and Cuba's political shifts. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the railroad was nationalized, ending its era of American ownership.
