Alaska, (Inc. in Arizona), 1906. $10 I/U 6% Gold Coupon Bond, Black on green border and underprint, Company title at top, S/N 1559, VF condition. The Turnagain Arm Gold Mining Company was organized in 1905–1906 during the height of activity in Alaska’s Hope–Sunrise district along the Kenai Peninsula. This region had first seen prospectors in the 1890s after discoveries on Resurrection and Sixmile Creeks, leading to a short-lived but vigorous gold rush. The company issued both stock and gold bonds to finance development, typical of Alaska ventures that relied on outside investment to work remote placer and lode claims draining into Turnagain Arm. While records of sustained production are scarce, its securities capture a vivid moment in Alaska’s early mining history, when hopeful investors backed enterprises in one of the Territory’s most famous districts. The Turnagain Arm camps remained active into the 1910s, with placer mining continuing intermittently until curtailed by World War II
