Addressed to Colonel Charles Williamson of Philadelphia, Text is as follows: "About the beginning of the month bets were offered and taken 10 to 1 against A. BurrÆ’..the odds have been gradually diminishing and even bets are now seldom offered". The content of the letter refers to the April, 1804 New York Gubernatorial Election which Burr lost (in part to Hamilton's vigorous campaigning against Burr). Burr's loss culminated in the famous duel in which he shot and killed Hamilton. Historic letter. Aaron Burr Jr. (February 6, 1756 _ September 14, 1836) was an American politician.
