Counterfoil pasted to left side of stockwhere it was removed from book. XF condition. James Boorman Colgate (1818-1904), American financier, was born in New York City. He established the banking house of Trevor and Colgate, afterward known as J. B. Colgate and Company. His loans to the federal government during the financial crisis of 1873 reestablished confidence in the United States and Europe. He was one of the founders of the New York Gold Exchange and was for several years its president. He was trustee of Colgate University. Well known notable (which is why he is well known).
