Albany City National Bank operated the regulations of the National Banking Act. The bank provided various banking services to individuals and businesses in the Albany area, including handling deposits and loans. It played a role in the local economy before eventually becoming part of broader industry consolidation. The corresponding bank was the National Shawmut Bank of Boston. It was an influential financial institution in Boston, it offered various banking services and played a key role in the region's financial sector. In 1960, it merged with the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company to form the Shawmut Corporation, which later became part of Bank of America in the early 1990s.
