US, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Mexico. 1870's. 16 pages of early National Banknote Company banknotes and additional proof vignettes used on various South American and U.S. Obsolete banknotes. 86 proof vignettes and banknotes are included with this lot. Included on these sample pages are: 1). 2 proof check security underprints for a Jay Cooke & Co. check and another untitled check similar to the Broadway Bank check; 2). Saginaw Mining Company, Ishpaming, Michigan, proof back of scrip note with ornate vignette of miners working in mine surrounded by ornate border; 3). State of Florida Obsolete Banknote back proof with ornate engravings and legend stating "This warrant is receivable by the State of Florida or by any officer or agent for State Taxes for public land sold by the trustees..."; 4). Argentina, Banco Entre-Riano, P-S1662, 5 pesos; P-S1663,10 Pesos; P-S1664, 20 Pesos; P-S1665, 100 Pesos, back proofs printed in black (4 items). There is also included the front title and text for P-S1664 as well as the denomination medallions for the all four of the previous notes; 5). Argentina, Banco De Mendoza, P-S1756, P-S1757, P-S1758, 1 Pesos, 5 Pesos and 10 Pesos, proof backs in black with separate front title and denomination proofs. There is also 1 Pesos and 5 Pesos undertint proofs; 6). Peru, Banco De Arequipa, Proof backs and front proofs of borders with undertints of fronts for P-S116 to P-S119, the 40 Centavo, 1, 2 and 5 Soles notes. There are also proofs of various portions of notes of Chile, P-S Unlisted, El Banco D.Fernandez Concha; 7). Peru, Banco Garantizador, P-S165, P-S166, P-S168, the 2 to 50 Soles proof backs printed in black with the front proof curved title; 8). Peru, El Banco de la Compania General Del Peru, proofs of the lower portion of the front of the note as well as proofs of the titles for the 1, 5 and 20 Soles notes; 9). Peru, El Banco Anglo-Peruano, P-S101, 20 centavo, front and back proofs; P-S101A or P-S102, 40 Centavos, back proof with front proof border and undertint, but no vignette or title; 10). Peru, El Banco Del Peru, P-S364, 4 Soles and P-S365, 10 Soles proofs of border, title and text with separate undertint and vignette and both with proof backs in black; 11). Mexico, El Banco De Chihuahua, P-S116, 50 Centavos, front and back proofs and P-S117, 1 Peso, front proof. The pages of the book are toned but the notes are almost all in choice condition. The plate numbers listed on the vignettes or written close to the vignettes range from # 1369 to 3982. Amazing group of mostly extremely rare notes. NBNC.
