Manila, Philippines, 1976. Odd Shares Specimen Capital Stock Certificate, Black text with orange border, Eagle at top center. Specimen POCs, VF-XF condition, SCBN. American-Asiatic Oil Corporation was formed in 1957 by Harry Stonehill, who was a multimillionaire who also owned U.S. Tobacco. Stonehill owned or held options for 26 million shares in the company. Between 1959 and 1962, American-Asiatic Oil drilled two dozen wells on the Philippine Government Petroleum Exploration Concession Number 213. Rarely spending more than a few days at each site, American-Asiatic Oil drilling crews moved its spudding rig from lease to lease. Total well depths averaged less than 500 feet and found no commercial quantities of oil, effectively ensuring that all company shares were almost valueless.
