Cincinnati, Ohio. March 18th, 1859. Issued letterhead addressed to Messrs. Titus Eddy & Co., Troy, NY. The letter is requesting 100 pounds of their best "Eddy's Black", evidently they were an ink manufacturer. The letter is signed by George T. Jones, Superintendent. Printed in black with patriotic eagle on the top left under ornate ABN title with the list of the 8 companies that made up ABNC in March of 1859. Their Cincinnati offices were located on S.E. Corner of 4th & Main St. The American Bank Note Company was officially formed on April 29, 1858 by the merger of 7 of the major printing and engraving companies at that time. George T. Jones was one of the partners of Edmonds, Jones & Smillie, which is evident in the quality and artisitc design of this letterhead, possibly designed and engraved by Smillie. The letter is 7.75 in x 10 inches. It is in XF condition and is one of the earliest Ohio branch letterheads from ABNC that the describer has seen. This is a historic Security Printer item that is missing from almost all advanced collections. ABNC.
