Andover Bank With Banknote Pricing on Back, ca.1830's Obsolete Proof.Andover, Massachusetts, 18xx (ca.1820-30s), $1, Plate A, MA-25-G12, SENC, Unlisted in census, Proof banknote, black on india paper, Seated allegorical commerce with shield, and sitting on miscellaneous items holding rake and scythe, standing milkmaid at left with right middle counter and bottom signature blocks cut out, SPECIMEN written on top right over One counter, AU condition, back has detailed text about prices - The New England Bank Note Co. Charge 1 cent each for printing such notes in this and 2 1/2 cts per sheet for paper, (each sheet making 8 notes) and $10 for 2 lots of dies for the name of our bank - that makes the cost of 1 sheet or 8 notes 10 1/2 cents exclusive of our dies - Feb 25, 1836, (New England Bank Note Company, with imprint cut off), This note was evidently a stock note that could have the names of banks and locations replaced. Interesting and rare archival production item as well as the remnants of a very rare note that may only be represented by this production copy. (Silver City Collection, Part 1)
