New York, 1886. Issued Membership Certificate to the Audubon Society, black text with black border, at top is an illustration of John James Audubon with a tree branch with a pair of blue jays at the left, VF condition with some minor chips and folds to margins. The Audubon Society was one of the earliest organizations dedicated to the conservation of wild birds and their eggs, and this piece is signed by the founder, George Bird Grinnell. Within a year of its foundation, the early Audubon Society had almost 40,000 members, all who pledged "not to molest birds." The society later disbanded, but the name and goal lived on in the National Audubon Society, which exists to this day. Rare and popular certificate.
