Czechoslovakia and Austria, 1849. 6 Kreuzer Issued Bank note, Black print with text at center and allegorical women at bottom, blue print on back, AU to Uncirculated condition. This 1849 private scrip note, valued at 6 Kreuzer, was issued by the firm Adam Helwig Sohn in Gabel (now Jablonné v Podješt_dí, Czech Republic) during the Austrian Empire’s post-1848 economic crisis. When a shortage of official small change paralyzed local commerce, merchants printed private emergency currency to facilitate daily trade. Designed with ornate borders to deter counterfeiting, the note outlines a specific redemption system: collecting ten of these 6-Kreuzer pieces allowed the bearer to exchange them for one official 1-Gulden state banknote, serving as a vital bridge for regional transaction stability.
