Nicaragua. Issued 5000 Cordobas, P-157; and 20000 Cordobas, P-147. Both are inflationary notes from the 1980's, and both are Contra counter stamped. The Contras were the various U.S.-backed and funded right-wing rebel groups that were active from 1979 to the early 1990s in opposition to the socialist Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction Government in Nicaragua. The notes are countersigned by head of the rebel high command, Juan Ramon Rivas, known as Comandante Quiche, and Commander Aureliano. Unrecorded in the catalog in this form and rare. VF.
