Lot of 3 notes, a photograph and correspondence related to counterfeit banknotes, chopped notes (verifying its authenticity) and accompanying letter. Included is a 1938 letter form ABNC representative from Shanghai to New York with attached photo of sign "Please Notice All Our Paper Money Is Chopped" which is hanging on a fence at a baseball game in Shanghai on July 4th. Letter states that there are numerous counterfeits in Shanghai, so "everyone is taking precautions....". Letter also notes that French Police captured $18,000 in counterfeits from a coastal steamer and the culprit said he was going to Tientsin to use them since they were too crude for Shanghai. Also included is a 1918, Bank of China, 5 Yuan, Tientsin Counterfeit as well as 2 different authentic chopped notes, a 1926, Shanghai, 5 Yuan Bank of China note and a 1918, 1 Yuan, Kiangsi Branch, Bank of China note, all in Good+ to VG condition.
