Montreal. November 9th, 1894. 2 page hand written letter from Beker & Farewell on their letterhead with proposal to American Bank Note Company to use their counterfeit proof banknote paper with a response by ABNC written on the envelope the proposal was mailed in with the . The letter from Beker includes 3 different paper samples that is being proposed to ABNC. The letter begins "We beg to submit to your notice, our new "Forgery-proof Bank Note Paper".....The invention is the result of many years of experiments...". The concept behind the paper design is a varying thickness of the paper that could be felt and not seen and would be extremely difficult for a counterfeiter to duplicate. ABNC internal thoughts are written on the envelope and state "I cannot see much value in this nor do I think a patent would hold....same result is obtained by careless handling of the mould in making hand made paper". Also included are 3 different paper samples offered as evidence of their invention. XF condition. Rare collateral correspondence relating to banknote printing. ABNC.
