Lot of 5 Items, Includes: 4 Documents that are signed by William Marcy Tweed in his role as Deputy Street Commissioner of New York. Lot also includes a clipping of a paper of Abraham Oakey Hall - Mayor of NYC with a quote regarding Tweed. William Magear Tweed (April 3, 1823 – April 12, 1878), widely known as "Boss" Tweed, was an American politician most notable for being the political boss of Tammany Hall, the Democratic Party's political machine that played a major role in the politics of 19th-century New York City and state. Tweed's greatest influence came from being an appointed member of a number of boards and commissions, his control over political patronage in New York City through Tammany, and his ability to ensure the loyalty of voters through jobs he could create and dispense on city-related projects. Abraham Oakey Hall (July 26, 1826 – October 7, 1898) was an American politician, lawyer, and writer. He served as Mayor of New York from 1869 to 1872 as a Democrat. Hall, known as "Elegant Oakey", was a model of serenity and respectability. In a scholar survey run by the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1993, he was ranked as the sixth-worst American big-city mayor to have served between the years 1820 and 1993. Recent historians have disputed the older depiction of Hall as corrupt or as a front man for a corrupt political order. Items range from Fine to VF+ condition. (5). Sold "AS IS" no returns accepted.
