Georgia, 1869. $1000 I/U 7% Second Mortgage Sinking Fund Coupon Bond, Signed by Henry Clews as Treasurer, S/N 63, Black text with green border and underprint, Train passing through the countryside at top center, Imprinted internal revenue stamps at center left and right, bright red embossed company seal at bottom left corner. Fine-VF condition with toning across fold lines, N.Y. Printing Co. Henry Clews (August 14, 1834 - January 31, 1923) was a British-American financier and author. He emigrated to the United States c.1850 and joined an import business as a junior clerk. His own firm, Clews and Company, was formed in 1877. Refusing public office, he nevertheless organized the "Committee of 70," which deposed the Tweed Ring in New York City. He also was the author of 'Fifty Years in Wall Street.'
