Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ND (ca.1820's), Copper printing plate with ornate engraved text in various fonts on 3 by 4.25 inch copper plate. The text states “Chas. (Charles) Welsh, Ornamental Writing - No. 191 Christian, Philadelphia “. A profile view of George Washington is in the middle similar to the design used on U.S. postage stamps. Another Unique copper printing plate from a new estate find and the first time ever offered in public auction. The plate is in excellent condition with evidence of previous cleanings long ago since the patina is starting to return, a lovely golden-red color, the back has imprint “J. Hufty Engraver. Philad.” who was part of the well known firm of UBSH “Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty” located in Philadelphia and well known for their early and ornate banknote engraving.
