California, 1870s to 1890s. Lot of 11 remainder and I/C stock certificates, representing western land speculation, agricultural cooperative enterprise, and early private water development, Includes: Central Land Company stock certificates (6); 1880 & 1884, I/C Farmers’ Union of San Jose, California (2); Pleasant Valley Land and Water Company, San Diego County, California stock certificates (2); and Grass Valley Water Company, San Francisco stock certificate (1). The group reflects California’s post–Gold Rush development era, when land syndicates, cooperative farming ventures, and water companies were organized to support settlement, irrigation, and agricultural expansion. Certificates feature engraved rural and agricultural vignettes, ornate borders, and period typography, with manuscript entries, signatures, and cancellation markings visible on the Farmers’ Union examples. Conditions range from VG to XF overall, with expected folds, toning, edge wear, and handling consistent with age. (11). Sold “AS IS” no returns accepted.
