San Francisco, CA, 1863, Pacific Land Company, 1 Share Stock Certificate (I/U). Printed in black with a bold border and striking vignettes: at left an allegorical female figure beside a shield marked “$1,100,000,” at center a detailed steamship at sea, and the title in large gothic script across the top; red 25¢ U.S. Internal Revenue stamp at upper right; incorporated in February 1863 to acquire, manage, and develop real estate during San Francisco’s rapid post–Gold Rush expansion, with many such firms organized to ride the speculative urban growth of California’s port cities; issued to W. Harwood and hand-signed by company officers, dated May 17, 1863, with embossed seal; the condition ranges from Choice Fine to VF condition or better. Printed by H. P. Butler’s Lith., San Francisco.
