San Francisco, California, 1907. Lot of 2 Specimen (the holder states Remainders, but these are Specimens). Includes $1 in brown, PMG graded Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ, with comment "Cancelled;" $2 in gray, PMG graded Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ, with comment "Cancelled." These certificates were issued as a result of the Panic of 1907, a financial crisis caused by a significant drop in the New York Stock Exchange and a subsequent run on banks. Clearing House Certificates were issued in place of paper money due to the crisis. (2)
