Nevada District...., Colorado Territory, (Incorporated in New York), 1866. 100 Shares I/U Stock Certificate, Black print with black border, Company title at top with mining vignette at right and along left side, 25 cent revenue stamp at left covering part of vignette, The company was tied to Nevadaville (Gregory Gulch), Gilpin County, in the Central City–Black Hawk district. Contemporary references place a “Corydon” mine/location in the Central City mining district. The company became notorious for market manipulation in New York/Boston. Newspapers in May to August 1867 reported the failure of a major “Corydon” stock operator (named John Leighton) and indicated the stock was to be stricken from the list over “swindling” by interested parties. S/N 734, VF to XF condition. Wm. H. Arthur.
