Hartford, Connecticut, 1913. Original engraved design artwork depicting the City of Hartford coat of arms, featuring an eagle with outstretched wings above a shield containing a stag standing in a landscape scene, with grape vines below and the city motto “Post Nubila Phoebus” on ribbon banners. Pencil and wash rendering prepared as an engraving model, with handwritten annotations at top reading “Eng by Chas Copeland / finished by Dan J. Brown, Oct. 1913”, along with notations referencing Spencer 1356 and City of Hartford 9/16/13. Artwork shows production markings and editorial notes typical of engraving preparation. Sheet exhibits age toning, edge wear, small tears and handling consistent with use in the engraving process. An attractive and historic piece of municipal engraving artwork. Condition ranges from Fine to Very Fine.
