Hartford, Connecticut, Lot of 3, 1790 dated I/C Interest payment certificates, Includes a 5 Shillings and 2 examples of 10 Shillings notes of lawful money, out of any "Funds appropriated for the Payment of interest on the liquidated Debt of the State of Connecticut,". Cut cancelled at center, all signed by Ralph Pomeroy as Comptroller. During the Revolutionary War, Pomeroy was a paymaster in the Continental Army. He remained involved in state politics after the war, acting as State Controller, and was also engaged in mercantile and manufacturing activities in Hartford. One of the certificates was issued to and signed by on the back by Hon. Joseph Platt Cooke (January 4, 1730 – February 3, 1816), who was an American military officer in the Revolutionary War, a Connecticut politician, and twice a delegate to the Congress of the Confederation. He was born in Stratford, Connecticut and graduated from Yale College in 1750\ VF condition. Printed by Hudson and Goodwin. (3)
