Hartford, Connecticut, 1785 and 1786. Lot of 2 Tax Pay Orders Issued by the Pay-Table Office. Black print with black handwriting and signatures, Both issued to Eleazer Wales and to be paid "out of the Taxes appropriated for the Payment of the Civil List and charge the state." Both are signed by Oliver Wolcott Jr (1760-1833), the second United States Secretary of the Treasury, a judge of the United States Circuit Court for the Second Circuit, and the 24th Governor of Connecticut. He was a member of the Pay-Table Committee for several years, and was a commissioner to settle claims of Connecticut against the United States from 1784 to 1788. Both are in VF-XF condition. Sold "AS IS" no returns accepted. (2)
