Kwangtung Province, China, 1 May Year 2 of the Republic (1913), $200, P-Unlisted, (S/M# Unlisted), Specimen or sample from the Hong Kong Printing Press archive, Chewsang issue, one of only two notes known from this bank. Chewsang (Kwangtung Province). The Hong Kong Printing Press archive of eastern Kwangtung notes was sold in the 1960's and came into the possession of the consignor of this note. In the archive surviving notes were glued into a scrapbook, normally only one example, occasionally two. Of the notes of this bank only two pieces were saved, or possibly only one denomination was printed by the Hong Kong Printing Press. At any rate in the archive there are only two pieces of the $200 note. $200 was the highest denomination note printed by the Hong Kong Printing Press, and apparently only three banks ordered notes of this denominaton -- in addition to the Chan Wai Seng Bank, the Hip Sing Hing Bank and the Ying Yu Sang Chong Bank of Chow Chew also printed a $200. In the record books of the Hong Kong Printing Press there were only five pieces in total of $200, while only two banks were domiciled on Chewsang, this bank and in addition the Sin Seng Cheong Bank. As a side note, the ancestors of many Singapore citizens came from Chewsang and the surrounding area, thus the dialect Chew Chow, or Chow Chew. Extreme rarity of the highest order, a strikingly attractive note that may never come to auction again.
