Shanghai, China, 1st January 1909, $10, P-S459, Issued banknote, Black on red underprint with medieval Oriental warrior at center over arch bridge on bottom with facing dragons in red flanking warrior, back red with facing dragons. The note is in VG+ to Almost Fine condition with a small notches on the bottom and top middle margin folds and a small hole in the center where the horizontal and vertical folds meet, the upper left corner tip is also missing but far from the design, there is also a small worm hole on the lower left border. The paper still has body and firmness and the colors are bright and stand out for the grade. There are 2 ornate chop marks on the face as well as a purple circular handstamp in the middle, the back has one chop on the upper right. This is an extremely rare note that is usually found as specimen. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a trophy Chinese banknote. BW&C.
