China, ND (ca.1910). Single envelope mailed from Shanghai, China, addressed to Captain G. R. Marvell, U.S.S. Helena, Kiukiang, China. Franked with a green 3-cent Chinese dragon stamp bearing a red overprint, with Shanghai postmark on front. Reverse shows partial transit marks, largely illegible. The U.S.S. Helena was a gunboat serving on the Yangtze River Patrol. Envelope only, no enclosure. Top edge torn, flap roughly opened with a portion missing, adhesive residue on reverse.
