Cleveland, OH. 50 Cents, Wolka 0714-06, Issued scrip note, Cleveland issued city orders in October 1862 to relieve the public of sticky postage stamps which seemed to make up the bulk of emergency alternatives to coinage which had disappeared from circulation. The city authorized $50,000 in these orders and began issuing them to the public on November 5, 1862.
