Pennsylvania, Lot of 2 Civil War Letters and an Envelope Cover, all from John S. Nimon, a Union Soldier from Pennsylvania. All letters are undated with interesting personal accounts regarding politics, military actions, and morality. The first letter is several pages long on lined and folded paper, Nimon describes an "excellent sermon," and mentions how "vice and immorality reigns almost Supreme. Men who are marching, as it were, into the very jaws of death like Soldiers do, should be thinking of something more important than soldiers generally do." He also mentions the impending arrival of Gen. Patterson, likely General Robert Patterson, who he remarks is "not a very fine looking officer." The second letter is brief and mentions that there are now 12 Regiments at the camp. The postal cover includes a colorful design of an American flag with a firing cannon, with "Shoot the first man that attempts to pull down the American Flag" underneath. The cover is in Fine condition with worn margins and aging, the letters are in Fine-VF condition. Interesting lot with plenty to explore. (3)
