Letter to his father of June 22, 1863. “Dear Father I will try to writ you a few lines It is with a sad heart that I attempt to write Poo Abner is dead he died on the fourth day of June up to Brashear City. His money and things I don’t know what was dun with them… an Over coat… and a pair of Patns… “ I gow with Prisoners … the rest had not gon to Port Hudson… guarding Genl Banks hed quarters…” Historic representation of this sad time in the history of this country.
