ND (ca.1861-65), Lot of 2 Civil War Letters and Cover Union Pennsylvania Volunteers. Letters with patriotic cover, written by John S. Nimmon. (Nimmon, of Fannettsburg was a 3 year veteran of the War Between the States. He was also a Quartermaster of the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted on August 31, 1861 and rose through the ranks from 1st Sergeant to Major by May of 1865). Letters discuss various skirmishes and armaments from both sides. Mentions “Frank or James and a “Negro” shot two of the soldiers wounding them severely but not mortally.” “…while his men 2 who were along used the bayonets, one of the soldiers was shot in the fray by the Lieutenant… three wounded soldiers and a dead “n-gger”. “ “The Virginians are firing into it “the town” and the chaps are returning it… Depicts a bloody time in our nation’s past and includes much more interesting reading as well as being relatively well written and thought out.
