Provost Marshal's Office, Mufreesboro, Tennessee. 1862 "Oath of Allegiance" on one side with Military Pass on the back. The Military Pass was issued to John Haley, with the Oath of Allegiance signed by John Haley. Besides the oath is a description of Haley, who was 49 at the time of issue, Blue eyes, grey hair and height 5 Feet, 1 Inch. Fine to VF condition. Though the pass was issued in September, 1862, later that year, there was a battle fought near Mufreesboro in December of 1862, "The Battle of Stones River". It was a major engagement of the American Civil War, and between December 31, 1862 and January 2, 1863, the rival armies suffered a combined total of 23,515 casualties. It was the bloodiest battle of the war by percentage of casualties. Historic document from a deadly and very sad time period in U.S. history.
