Colorado Territory (offices in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), 1875, The Philadelphia and Boston Gold and Silver Mining Company, $500 Bond, 7% Interest. Issued in 1875, this $500 bond of the Philadelphia and Boston Gold and Silver Mining Company was secured by mortgages on mines, stamp mills, and properties in Lake County, Colorado Territory. Printed in black on cream paper, the certificate features an engraved vignette of miners working underground, flanked by ornate borders and embellished with the company’s embossed seal. The bond carried a 7% annual interest rate, payable in Philadelphia, and reflects the common practice of Eastern capital markets financing Colorado’s mining development during the silver and gold rush era. Signed by company officers and bearing the official seal, Choice VF to XF or better.
