Maryland. February 1, 1814, 1 Share, I/U stock certificate, S/N 151, black on light beige paper, Issued to John Ellicott and signed by Samuel Godfrey as President and Samuel Heston as Treasurer. Embossed corporate seal at the left next to the small ornate counterfoil. S/N 151. On January 10, 1810, the Columbia Turnpike Road Company was chartered by the General Assembly of Maryland to "make a turnpike road from where the road leading from Montgomery courthouse to Baltimore intersects the Baltimore and Frederick turnpike road near Ellicott's lower mills, in a direction towards Georgetown, until it intersects the line of the district of Columbia, and so that it shall cross Rock creek at not less than three miles above Georgetown".
