The Commercial Cable Company was formed in 1883 by John Mackay, a mining magnate, and James Gordon Bennett, owner of the New York Herald to compete with the Western Union Atlantic service. Six Atlantic cables were laid for the company, the first in 1884 and the last in 1923. Rare Telegraph and telephone related company.
