Territory of Papua. 1943. 6 Shillings, P-Unlisted. Partially issued but unsigned Postal Note. Issued in Brisbane and dated 13 May '43 in circular handstamp on face. Under title in smaller print is text "Payable Only Within The Commonwealth and Territory of Papua". Possibly used for small purchases or for change since there is evidence of wear and folding, but it was never filled out or possibly it was intended for use and never issued or cashed. Fine condition with pin holes on upper left and toning on left and right margins. Black on light green undertint with arms on upper left, back with black text instructing how it was supposed to be cashed. John Ash, Australian Note and Stamp Printer imprint on bottom. During World War II in the battles of the Pacific, Papua was governed by an Australian military administration from Port Moresby. General MacArthur occasionally made it his headquarters there during the war. Interesting and rare War time Australian Postal Note for use in the Territory of Papua (and New Guinea).
