France and U.S.... , 1856. 1 Share worth 100 Francs I/U Stock Certificate in French, Black text with black and gray border, gray background, Portrait of George Washington at top center with Jefferson, Harrison, Madison and Monroe in the corners with patriotic Eagle at bottom center. VF condition with some small stains at bottom and pin holes on the lower left margin. A French emigration agent, Dutot, and a German businessman, Hartmann, purchased land in Virginia for European emigrants. Dutot would recruit candidates for emigration in Paris, while Harmann lived in the United States to facilitate their business. (From the Collection of John E. Herzog)
