Compaq Computer Corporation was founded in February 1982 by Rod Canion, Jim Harris and Bill Murto, three senior managers who left Texas Instruments and invested $1,000 each to form their own company. In December 1985 securities of the company began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. This certificate model is dated 12-12-85. In 1986, it joins the Fortune 500 faster than any company in history. In 1989, Compaq introduces the first Compaq notebook PC, the Compaq LTE.
