Second of Transfer (First unpaid) for $2,500, payable to the order of the Assistant Treasurer U.S., San Francisco, California, drawn on the Assistant Treasurer U.S. at Boston, Massachusetts. Black text with eagle-and-shield vignette at upper left, ornate "SECOND OF TRANSFER" left border panel, and large red "SECOND OF TRANSFER" protector overprint across the face. Signed by Wm. B. Randolph as Acting Treasurer of the U.S.; a second signature as Acting Register of the Treasury [signature TBC - possibly "T. Jones"]; and P. G. Washington for the Secretary of the Treasury - Peter G. Washington, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury (1853-57) and a collateral descendant of the Washington family. Docketing in pencil on face. Reverse: "Pay to the order of [payee name TBC - possibly Secomb Taylor]" endorsed by J. R. Snyder, Asst. Treasurer U.S., San Francisco, Cal. - Major Jacob R. Snyder, prominent California pioneer, delegate to the 1849 California Constitutional Convention, and first Assistant Treasurer at the newly established San Francisco Sub-Treasury. A second bold signature appears below payee's endorsement.
