Washington, D.C., Series of 1928 A, $10/$5, Double Denomination Error, Fr#2001-E (EA Block), Issued banknote, S/N E04700280A pp H, PMG graded Choice About Uncirculated 58. This note is considered by many to be the “King of All Errors”, Double-denomination errors in U.S. currency, regardless of the time period or variety, are exceptionally rare. Most large-size double denominations resulted from misprints caused by back-only sheets of multi-denominational National Bank Notes being fed upside down for their second printing. This caused discrepancies in the denominations at specific positions on the sheet, as well as an inversion of the back print relative to the front. For small-size double denominations, only four instances are recorded in history. These include the Series 1928-A $10/$5 Richmond Federal Reserve Notes, of which only 12 examples are known; a limited run of Series 1934-D $5/$10 Kansas City Federal Reserve Notes; a small batch of Series 1950-A $10/$1 New York Federal Reserve Notes, which feature Silver Certificate backs; and a group of Series 1974 $20/$10 Dallas Federal Reserve Notes.
