Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. was founded in 1940 by Leonard P. Pool in Detroit, Michigan, introducing the innovative idea of on-site gas production. The company expanded during World War II by supplying mobile oxygen generators to the U.S. military, later relocating its headquarters to Pennsylvania. In the 1960s it diversified into chemicals and pioneered large-scale production of liquid hydrogen and industrial gases, while expanding internationally. Today, Air Products is headquartered in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, and is a global leader in industrial gases and clean energy technologies.
