Lot of 8 Depression Era emergency scrip, tax tokens, and commemorative exchange certificates issued by municipalities and local organizations during the economic crisis of the 1930s, Includes: 1932, Chamber of Commerce, Tenino, Wash., 25 Cent Wooden Scrip Certificate; 1933, Heppner Sheepskin Scrip, Heppner, Oregon, $5, Cancelled Overprint; 1930s, Pilot Rock Commercial Association, Oregon, $1 I/C Wheat Scrip; 1936, Whitman Centennial Celebration, Wash., Exchange Certificate; 1930s to 1940s, State of Washington Tax Tokens, 5 Mills (2 different); and 1930s to 1940s, Emergency Sales Tax Tokens, Spokane, Wash., 1 and 3 Mills. These pieces represent various forms of substitute currency and tax payment tokens used when coinage shortages and economic hardship required local solutions. Items show typical handling and age.
