Delaware, ND (ca.1910-30s). Specimen 100 Shares Preferred Stock Certificate, Black on brown border and underprint, Screaming eagle at top left corner beside company title, Black specimen overprints and POCs, XF-AU condition. ABNC. In the early 1850s, Edward Tattnall of Wilmington, Delaware was given an English recipe for making matches by a business acquaintance, William R. Smith. In 1853, Tattnall attempted to turn the recipe into a business at Market Street Bridge over Brandywine Creek in Wilmington. The Diamond Match Company was the largest manufacturer of matches in the United States in the late nineteenth century.
