U.S., Ecuador. 1970's. 12 pages of early National Banknote Company banknotes and vignettes used on various obsolete and foreign banknotes, checks, drafts, stock certificates, documents and security printed items. Close to 220 proof vignettes. Topics include railroads, allegorical figures, bank and business titles, bond coupons, borders, medallions, numerals and countless other interesting items. High lights include excessively rare and one possibly unique banknote proof from Ecuador, Banco de Quito, 2 different proofs, one is an unlisted 4 Reales denomination and the other is P-S231, 2 Reales, front proof with right margin slightly damaged. It includes one proof of the title, vignette and text and another of the border and undertint; the unlisted 4 Reales proof is in the same format and has a small portion of the left side of the note damaged, but in all probability, it is unique. There are other South American proofs related to banknotes and also a 5 pesos front proof of Banco Entre-Riano without vignette or border. Other interesting items include a Commonwealth of Virginia, 1868, Coupon Debt Warrant "Issued Under an Act 25th of April, 1867 and May Be Used In Payment of State Taxes". There is a compound National Banknote Title Proof for "The National Bank of Fayetteville and next to it a similar vignette for "Elmira" In addition, there are numerous proofs of the design elements, text, borders, titles and vignettes including "Niagara Falls". Condition ranges from almost good to fine condition with archival notations in ink on a considerable number of the vignettes. The plate numbers listed on the vignettes or written close to the vignettes range from #1005 to 2096. Another rare and fascinating group of obsolete and foreign banknote related vignettes. NBNC.
