Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 14, 1920, $125 Check, International Banking Corporation. Printed form issued by the International Banking Corporation, 55 Wall Street, New York, payable in the amount of US $125 to Alice H. Marden. The piece is boldly imprinted Duplicate vertically at center, with the notation Original not having been paid. Black text with ornate globe-and-eagle vignette at top left. Dated with a violet handstamp, manuscript signatures of manager and accountant at lower right. Issued in Santo Domingo with printer’s imprint “Lito Lepervanche S. Domingo” at bottom margin. A fascinating early 20th-century financial document tied to American banking operations in the Dominican Republic, reflecting the growing international reach of Wall Street institutions during the post-World War I period. The International Banking Corporation, established in 1901, later became part of Citibank’s overseas expansion. VF condition.
